Kinghorn Teen Wins Burntisland & Kinghorn Rotary Club's Young Citizen Award 2022

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Ben Stalker, aged 19, from Kinghorn, who has been awarded Burntisland & Kinghorn Rotary Club's inaugural Young Citizen Award 2022; understands that Ben has been working at local charity, Greener Kirkcaldy, since 2021 on a Kick Start scheme helping to prepare and serve community meals, which uses surplus food from supermarkets to cook meals for around 80 people each week; commends him for assisting with the community pantry at Greener Kirkcaldy and for teaching vulnerable people to cook from scratch, using fresh ingredients, some of which are grown in the allotments at the charity's grounds, and notes that Ben also helps to reduce food waste by using less packaging and processed food, grows his own vegetables, cooks with fresh ingredients, and by eating local produce, all of which it considers helps to reduce the carbon footprint of the local community.
