2022 Worldwide Gathering of the Clan Macneil
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the Worldwide Gathering of the Clan Macneil to the Isle of Barra from 8 to10 August 2022; believes that the gathering will bring together members of Clan Macneil Associations from across the globe, including the United States of America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand; understands that the Clan Macneil, known in Gaelic as Clann Nìll, claims descent from the semi-mythical Niall of the Nine Hostages (Niall Noígíallach), an Irish king from the 5th or 6th century; further understands that the seat of Clan Macneil is Kisimul Castle in Castlebay, Isle of Barra, with associated septs from the islands of Gigha, Colonsay, Islay and the peninsulas of Knapdale and Kintyre; hopes that the picturesque and historic castle, which it understands is currently closed to the public due to ongoing remedial works, will be repaired to reopen in the near future, and wishes the Clan Macneil a successful worldwide gathering. The Member has provided the following Gaelic translation: Co-chruinneachadh Cruinneil 2022 Chlann NìllGu bheil a’ Phàrlamaid a’ cur fàilte air Co-chruinneachadh Cruinneil Clann Nìll ann am Barraigh eadar 8 gu 10 dhen Lùnastal; a’ creidsinn gun toir an cruinneachadh buill de Chomainn Clann Nìll còmhla bho air feadh an t-saoghail, o leithid nan Stàitean Aonaichte, Canada, Astràilia agus Sealann Nuadh; a’ tuigsinn gur ann o Niall Noígíallach, rìgh Èireannach on 5mh no 6mh linn, a shloinneas an cinneadh iad fhèin; a’ tuigsinn cuideachd gur e Caisteal Chiosamail ann am Bàgh a’ Chaisteil, Barraigh, as cathair dhan chinneadh, ged a bhuineas meuran a’ chinnidh ri Giogha, Colbhasa, Ìle, Cnapdail agus Cinn Tìre; an dòchas gum fosgail, an ùine gun a bhith fada, an caisteal dreachmhor eachdraidheil seo, a tha dùinte dhan t-sluagh an ceart uair, tha i a’ tuigsinn, ri linn obraichean càraidh, agus a’ guidhe gach soirbheachas do Chlann Nìll airson a’ cho-chruinneachaidh aca.
