The motion

That the Parliament welcomes that Glasgow’s Emirates Arena will host a group stage of the Davis Cup Finals, known as the Men’s World Cup of Tennis, between 13 and 18 September 2022; notes that Great Britain was chosen as one of four host nations for the Davis Cup Finals group stages, with Glasgow's Emirates Arena named as the UK venue; welcomes that the event will allow fans to see some of the world’s best players in Glasgow, with Great Britain playing at home for the first time since 2018; understands that Andy Murray, British number one, Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and Joe Salisbury have been announced as the first four players to head to Glasgow to compete against the USA, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands in Group D; further understands that in November 2022, Glasgow will also host the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, which, it understands, is the world’s largest annual international team competition in women’s sport and known as the Women’s World Cup of Tennis, and hopes that Glasgow hosting these two prestigious events will be a great boost for British tennis and will encourage and inspire more people in the country to take up the sport.
