Ross Cunningham's Hill-climbing for SAMH

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that a man who works in Alloa is in the process of climbing to the highest point of all 29 of Scotland's mainland local authority areas as part of a mental health awareness drive; understands that Ross Cunningham is an experienced hillwalker who recently scaled all 282 Munros in Scotland and that, for his latest challenge, the Stirling University graduate has chosen to raise money for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), a cause which he says is close to his heart; notes that with six of his 29 summits already completed, including Ben Cleuch in Clackmannanshire, Ross is completing the challenge on his own although he has had friends along to join him on different hills; acknowledges that, in speaking publicly about his journey through a period of depression around five years ago, Ross found that hillwalking was a huge benefit to his mental wellbeing; understands that, in opening up about how he was feeling, he also realised how important it was to support those charities that were doing so much to help people with their mental health across Scotland, and commends Ross on his fantastic initiative for the benefit of others through this fundraising as well as his highly positive outlook towards his own physical and mental health and fitness.
