Home-Start Clackmannanshire Receives Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Home-Start Clackmannanshire on receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS); understands that the award, which, it considers, is widely known as the MBE for charities, is the highest honour available in the third sector; acknowledges what it understands is the widespread view across the local community that Home-Start Clackmannanshire provides an absolutely essential service for families, many of them single parent, who are struggling to cope; considers that the work done by the volunteers of the group is of the highest quality, and this is recognised by its umbrella organisation, Home-Start UK, and most importantly by its client families, as a life-changing service; notes that the Alloa charity, which is based at The Whins, and also operates a shop on High Street, has a group of around 30 volunteers, and works with families across the county who have at least one child under 12 years of age, and offer support, friendship and practical help to families in what it sees as a unique, family-centred way, and commends CEO Shelley Bowman and all her volunteers for their collective sterling work for the benefit of the local community.
