Baby Loss Awareness Week 2022
The motion
That the Parliament understands that 9 to15 October 2022 marks Baby Loss Awareness Week; notes that 2022 is the 20th anniversary of the first Baby Loss Awareness Week; is aware that it is a week for everyone in the baby loss community and beyond to come together to remember and commemorate much-loved and missed babies; understands that the theme for 2022 is Stepping Stones, recognising that, following their loss, families find themselves on a new path that they never expected to be on, and focusing on the steps along that journey, how they are different for everyone, how some can find them harder than others, but that there is always a hand to support anyone when they feel unsteady; further understands that the week also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss, the important role that bereavement support plays in the ongoing bereavement journey, and what it sees as the vital work that is needed to improve pregnancy outcomes and to save babies’ lives; recognises that the culmination of the week is the Wave of Light on 15 October at 7.00 pm, when people can light a candle to remember their own baby or, for people not affected by baby loss, to join others in solidarity; acknowledges that there are over 80 members in the alliance that observes this week, including the Edinburgh-based charity, Held In Our Hearts; commends Held In Our Hearts for the work it does in the Lothians and beyond, including counselling, peer support and compassionate support training for NHS Staff, and sends best wishes to all who are honouring Baby Loss Awareness Week 2022.
