Bethesda Christian Fellowship in Helensburgh Celebrates 175th Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Bethesda Christian Fellowship on its 175th anniversary year; recognises that the organisation is dedicated to spreading the Christian word and serving the community in Helensburgh and the surrounding areas; notes that it has a proud history in Helensburgh dating back to at least 1847 when Robert Dickie made contact with evangelist, John Bowes, who also played a major role in the developing church; understands that Bowes was preaching in Helensburgh, Cardross and Garelochhead up to three times a day, attracting hundreds of followers; notes that, by 1880, Eastburn Hall, a predecessor to Bethesda was established at Colquhoun Square before relocating to East King Street and West Princes Street; acknowledges that Bethesda Christian Fellowship moved to Colquhoun Street in Helensburgh, in 1938, within a building that underwent a comprehensive upgrade that was completed last year and is currently used by a number of groups, including a creche, Sunday Club, parent and toddler groups, art class, a disabled group, bible study and prayer groups and a youth group, as well as a café, which is open from Wednesday to Friday; notes that an open day was held during summer before an evening of celebration in September; congratulates the church on reaching the milestone anniversary, and wishes Bethesda Christian Fellowship well for the future.
