The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 16 October 2022 is Restart a Heart Day, which is a day that raises awareness of cardiac arrest and the importance of learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly known as CPR; understands that 3,200 cardiac arrests occur out of hospital every year in Scotland, that only one in 10 survive, but that performing CPR can more than double the chance of survival in some cases; highlights that the British Heart Foundation has a new CPR training tool called RevivR, which can be accessed from its website and teaches people in 15 minutes how to perform CPR, and all that is needed for the training is a smartphone and a cushion; encourages everyone to complete the training, and emphasises that if someone collapses and stops breathing it is important to call 999, perform CPR, and use a defibrillator if there is one available close by.
