Guide Dogs High Street Heroes Week 2022

The motion

That the Parliament is enthused at the return in November 2022 of the charity, Guide Dogs’ annual high street campaign event; understands that on 4 November 2022, Guide Dogs launches High Street Heroes week, which will run from 7 to13 November 2022; notes that at this event, volunteers are invited to go out to their local high street and speak to businesses such as shops and cafes regarding the access rights of those with assistance dogs and asking them to display “Assistance Dogs Welcome” window stickers, as well as discussing ways in which businesses can make people with guide dogs more welcome; understands that Guide Dogs has been campaigning on access refusals for around six years; is saddened that 81% of people who have a guide dog have told the charity that they have experienced an access refusal in the past; considers that this refusal is nearly always unlawful; believes that this is also a deeply harmful form of discrimination, and wishes Guide Dogs and all its volunteers and service users every success in their campaign.
