The Maryhill Community Tennis Club Forthcoming Reopening
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates The Maryhill Community Tennis Club on its forthcoming reopening following an extensive refurbishment; notes that the Maryhill Community Tennis Club has been closed since summer, while the long-awaited upgrade was completed; further notes that the renovation has included the creation of three tarmac courts and four mini-courts to specifically encourage children to use them; understands that overgrown with grass and run down, the tennis courts were finally modernised following years of campaigning by volunteers and Friends of Maryhill Park who look after the area; further understands that efforts to raise funds and awareness have been ongoing for four years but the cause gained significant attention when Judy Murray visited the club in 2019, and acknowledges that her foundation offered a £50,000 donation to support the upgrade with the aim to make the sport more accessible to the community.
