The motion

That the Parliament welcomes Barnardo’s Scotland receiving £700,000 of funding from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to support hundreds of young people to make the move into construction industry jobs across Scotland; considers that this will allow Barnardo’s Scotland to support people into work, within the construction industry, and to access relevant industry-recognised training; believes that this builds upon years of work within Barnardo’s Scotland to help young people, including care leavers, gain employment, training and skills; acknowledges that the funding is part of the CITB’s Scottish Academy for Construction Opportunities (SACO) commission and covers Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Dundee, the Highlands, Perth and Kinross and Moray, and will run over the course of the next three years; commends that all new entrants will be given the opportunity to start work in construction with a variety of roles on offer, including, but not limited to, joinery, bricklaying, roofing, scaffolding and general building operatives, and calls on the Scottish Government to do it all it can to ensure that all young people across Scotland can access education, training and skills to help them gain employment.
