The motion

That the Parliament notes the publication of Cats Protection’s new report, Cats and Their Stats (CATS) Report Scotland 2022, which, it understands, is the most comprehensive survey of Scottish cat owners; notes that the report finds that owned cat population in Scotland has increased by 220,000 to 900,000 cats; considers the impact that the cost of living has on cat owners with 32% of all Scottish cat owners expressing significant concern over being able to afford bills and other living costs over the next 12 months due to price increases; acknowledges the report’s findings that the proportion of cats that are microchipped has fallen from 71% to 67% in the last 12 months and that the proportion of microchipped cats is lower in Scotland than the overall UK figure for microchipped cats (71%), and notes Cats Protection calls for regulations to make microchipping of pet cats compulsory in Scotland.
