The motion

That the Parliament welcomes World Toilet Day, on 19 November 2022; recognises that this day was set up in 2001 to raise awareness of the lack of access to proper sanitation experienced by billions of people around the world; understands that this day raises awareness of the 3.6 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation; notes reports that taking action to tackle the global sanitation crisis would achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6, sanitation and water for all by 2030; considers that World Toilet Day is also an opportunity to reflect on the reports that, even in this wealthy country, there are many who cannot count on being able to use the toilet when necessary; further considers that disabled people too frequently face obstacles when using accessible toilets that are used as store cupboards, are not signposted, or are built in such a way that they are inaccessible; welcomes what it sees as this often ridiculed but vastly important international day, and thanks all those committed to achieving sanitation and water for all.
