The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Babcock on being recognised in an independent report, which was published by Oxford Economics, for the company’s significant contribution to the economy in Scotland and the UK defence sector; understands that this has come through employment and investment by the firm, which directly employs 3,500 people in Scotland and supports a further 2,800 in businesses across its Scottish supply chain; notes that Babcock is a FTSE250 listed international defence company, specialising in providing critical, complex engineering services across defence, emergency services and civil nuclear markets, both in the UK and internationally; understands that it is the second largest supplier to the Ministry of Defence and works at HMNB Clyde to provide critical services to the Royal Navy; acknowledges that, according to the report, Babcock contributed over £3.3 billion directly and indirectly to UK GDP, including £370 million in Scotland, for the financial year ending 31 March 2022; thanks it for investing in young people, providing, it understands, over 150 graduates and apprentices with training to become highly-skilled workers, and wishes it well for the future.
