Biggar and Better - Biggar Netball Club Named Finalist in The Scottish Sports Awards

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the achievements of Biggar Netball Club, which have led it to be shortlisted for The Scottish Sports Awards in the Club Sport Award category; understands that the awards recognise the best of Scottish Sport and the Club Sport Award is given to clubs in recognition of developing their club for their communities; notes that Biggar Netball Club was established in 2017 and encompasses all age groups across one senior team, two juniors teams, two mini teams, and two social teams; recognises the members, parents, committee, coaches, and volunteers for their diligence to progress the club towards its Netball Scotland Gold Thistle Mark Standard and nomination in The Scottish Sports Awards, including Biggar Netball Club’s Chairperson, who, it understands has built a supportive and inclusive atmosphere within the club across all sections and secured a great deal of grant funding to provide more opportunities to members and to further develop the coaching team; understands that the club has overcome challenges unique to its location in rural Scotland and has grown from 50 to 150 members by actively promoting the social, physical and mental wellbeing benefits of the sport; applauds Biggar Netball Club’s efforts to provide access to fun and competitive netball for all ages across the Clydesdale area, and wishes it every success at the awards and beyond.
