Recognising Excellence in Female Athletics

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan have been nominated as Female Athlete of the Year in The Scottish Sports Awards; notes that the award recognises the dedication, determination, and excellence of female athletes; understands that both Laura and Eilish have overcome season-threatening injuries to break records and ensure their places on the podium; notes that both women are also nominated for Sports Moment of the Year, Eilish McColgan for winning 10,000m gold at Birmingham 2022 and Laura Muir for scoring three medals from three majors with European gold; recognises the role their coaches and support systems played in Laura’s four major medals from four finals and Eilish’s record setting runs in the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon; commends Laura and Eilish for being a positive example for young women in sport, and wishes them all the best at the awards and in their future seasons.
