Poonam Gupta OBE Announced as Scottish Export Champion

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Poonam Gupta OBE, Chief Executive of PG Paper in Greenock, on being announced as Scottish Export Champion by Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade and Minister for Women and Equalities; notes that her role will be to help the Department of International Trade (DIT) and Scottish Development International (SDI) to promote the benefits of exporting and encourage other companies to consider selling to overseas markets; understands that the Export Champion role has been introduced in response to a desire from businesses to receive peer-to-peer exporting support; further understands that PG Paper is a Scottish success story and a globally-recognised business, which operates in 60 countries with an impressive turnover of £55 million; notes that over 90% of its products are exported to the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and the Far East; understands that Poonam will support Scottish exports by using her experience and will provide advice to peers, take part in events as a speaker and panel member, act as an exporting role model in marketing campaigns, host ministerial visits, provide business insights to help inform policy and keep the Department for International Trade up to date with the business community’s views, and wishes Poonam the very best of success in her new role.
