Supporting the British Transport Police

The motion

That the Parliament believes that all people should be able to travel on public transport without fear of harassment or violence; understands that transport users, especially women and girls, still often face unacceptable behaviour from some fellow passengers and considers that more can be done to prevent this; further understands that an estimated 75% of sex crimes on the railways go unreported; supports British Transport Police (BTP), and its partners, including Police Scotland, ScotRail and others, in their efforts to tackle violence and harassment on the rail network; commends BTP's free Railway Guardian app, which, it understands, allows passengers to report crimes and provides information about what action can be taken when sexual harassment is witnessed on trains, and support's BTP’s, Speak Up, Interrupt campaign, which aims to empower bystanders and witnesses to report incidents or safely intervene where they can.
