Double Award Win at the Sports Awards 2022 for Ayr Storm Basketball Club

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Danny Gibbons of Ayr Storm Basketball Club on winning the Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 at South Ayrshire Active Schools Sport’s Awards 2022, and Alix McIntosh on winning the award for Talented Athlete 2022; notes that the awards were held at Troon Town Hall on 1 December where Danny was presented his award by Leader of South Ayrshire Council (SAC), and Alix was presented her award by SAC's Sports and Leisure Co-ordinator, Ali Mutch; understands that Danny started playing basketball around 1980 in high school and with various clubs before moving to Digital Basketball Club in 1996, which would become Ayr Storm; notes that Danny was a founder of the club and is currently head coach of the under-16 squad, club treasurer, national league secretary and has also become a qualified referee and table official; acknowledges that Danny also volunteers contributing to the club and wider community of basketball in the South Ayrshire area; understands that Alix joined Ayr Storm’s youngest section and has remained with the club where she captained the under-16 women team to a Scottish Cup final win; further understands that Alix also played for Great Britain in the Euro Championships, and Scotland in the tri-nations, and wishes Danny and Alix the very best with their future endeavours, and all at Ayr Storm continued success.
