Remembering Duncan MacPhee
The motion
That the Parliament expresses its sorrow at the sad passing of Lochaber resident, Duncan MacPhee at the age of 70; notes that Duncan was a renowned crofting lawyer, first as a partner with MacArthur, Stewart & Orr and then with his wife, Rosemary, establishing the law firm MacPhee & Partners in 1996; understands that Duncan was one of the first solicitors to be accredited by the Law Society as a specialist in crofting law, and that he served for a time as vice-chairman of the Crofting Law Group, where he contributed to its review of crofting law, known as the Crofting Law Sump; acknowledges Duncan’s contributions to various clubs and associations including the Lochaber Rugby Club, Lochaber Yacht Club, Lochaber Pipe Band, the Camanachd Association, Lochaber Sports Association and the East Lochaber and Laggan Community Trust; further acknowledges Duncan’s time with Fort William Shinty Club, where he was pivotal in founding the Fraser MacPhee Youth Shinty Tournament in memory of his late son, and also founding a second pitch for the club known as Fraser’s Field; applauds Duncan for his charitable work and wider contribution to local communities across Lochaber, and passes its sincere condolences to Duncan’s wife, Rosemary, his surviving children, Catriona, Niall, Ruaridh and Arran and his wider group of family and friends at this sad time.
