Sudanese Woman Joins New Elders for St Mark's Parish Church, Raploch

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that a woman from Sudan has become an elder with St Mark’s Parish Church in Raploch; understands that Eman Musa, her daughter Shere and son David have been attending St Mark’s since arriving in Scotland in June 2019 and that, in 2021, to mark their second anniversary as part of the church, Eman made a public profession of faith, and Shere and David were baptised at the same ceremony; acknowledges that 18 months after making that profession of faith, Eman is one of four new elders who were ordained at St Mark’s in December 2022; considers that Eman previously spent 14 years in a refugee camp in Egypt after fleeing Sudan’s civil war in 2004 and has since spoken regarding the welcome she has received from the St Mark’s congregation since the family’s arrival three years ago, which included members of the congregation visiting the family and cooking their meals every night while they settled into life in Scotland; notes that she ordained alongside fellow new elders, Gillian Hughes, Donnamarie Totten and Shug Stewart, at a recent service that was also attended by the Clackmannanshire Silver Band; commends all the congregation, St Mark’s minister, the Reverend Barry Hughes, and the Church of Scotland on what it considers their fantastic welcome and inclusivity to all, and wishes all the new elders and everyone at St Mark’s all the very best for the future.
