The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Andrew Swinburne, from West Fife, on being awarded the Technical Official and Referee of the Year accolade by Judo Scotland; understands that the award was presented as part of Judo Scotland’s Coaching and Volunteer Awards, and recognises what it sees as the dedication and hard work that roles such as those of technical official and referees make to the competition structure of the sport in Scotland; notes that Mr Swinburne is a member of the Carnegie Judo Club in Dunfermline where he has also been involved in the Fighting Chance Scotland initiative, alongside his development as a coach through the Judo Scotland Coaching Academy; recognises that Fighting Chance Scotland aims to give an opportunity to learn new skills to young students who are disengaged, socially isolated, lack positive role models or have low self-esteem, are victims of neglect, crime or bullying, may engage in antisocial behaviour, or be at risk of being excluded from education, and wishes Mr Swinburne, the Carnegie Judo Club and the Fighting Chance Scotland initiative the best of luck in developing the sport for future generations.
