Port Glasgow New Parish Church Celebrates 200th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that the Port Glasgow New Parish Church celebrated its 200th anniversary on 22 January 2023; understands that the Right Reverend Dr Iain Greenshields, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, attended the celebrations and presented church certificates to older church members for their long service, which spanned 30 years, before performing the ceremonial honour of cutting a 200th birthday cake; further understands that over 160 church members came together for a lunchtime celebratory buffet; recognises what it sees as the great work that the church, led by Parish Minister William Boyle, does for the local community, such as facilitating mental health and wellbeing initiatives including walking football, Walk and Talk, and the Dove Café; celebrates that the Port Glasgow New Parish Church has reached an incredible milestone, and wishes it the very best in continuing to be a great community institution for the people of Port Glasgow.
