Prestwick Figure Skater Wins Silver at European Championships

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Prestwick’s Lewis Gibson, and his skating partner, Lilah Fear, on winning a silver medal at the European Figure Skating Championships 2023; notes that the European Figure Skating Championships were held from 25 to 29 January 2023 in Espoo, Finland; understands that their win is the highest-level British win since Torvill and Dean competed and won a gold medal at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo; further understands that this is the first time that Britain has won a medal at the European Championships since 2014; understands that Lewis and Lilah first became a duo in 2016 and competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, finishing in 10th place; further understands that the pair won a silver medal at the UK’s first-ever Figure Skating Grand Prix in November 2022; notes that the Grand Prix event took place in Sheffield, and was the biggest figure skating event to be hosted in the UK since 2012; further notes that the Senior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event set the stage for the 2023 European and World Championships; commends the hard work that Lewis and Lilah have put into their training; acknowledges their commitment and passion for the sport, and wishes them all the best for the future.
