Taiwan Ranked 14th Best Country in the World for Freedom and Human Rights

The motion

That the Parliament notes that Taiwan has recently been ranked 14th best country in the world for freedom and human rights, according to the Human Freedom Index; understands that the index is considered the most comprehensive freedom index to date, and makes its decisions based on indicators such as rule of law, freedom of religion, freedom of association, freedom of expression and freedom of relationships; recognises that the report found a strong link between democracy and freedom, and that democracy played an important role in people’s wellbeing; acknowledges that Taiwan achieved the highest ranking of any country in Asia, and welcomes further collaboration with Taiwan to seek to strengthen its ranking in such international tables.
