Social Enterprise and Scotland’s Economy

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the new Social Enterprise Census report; recognises what it sees as the vital economic and social contribution of what it believes is Scotland’s world-leading social enterprise movement; understands that Scotland now has over 6,000 social enterprises, providing 90,000 full time equivalent jobs, with 85% paying the voluntary real living wage and 71% led by women, a collective economic contribution of Gross Value Added (GVA) of £2.63 billion and a total net worth of £7 billion; believes that social enterprises support the most excluded in society, improve the natural environment and local regeneration and are building a wellbeing economy; considers that social enterprise is a unifying force for policy-makers and has cross-party support, and believes that national and local government should continue to improve business support and invest in social enterprises, for the practical benefit of people in every rural and urban community.
