Purple Day 2023

The motion

That the Parliament notes that 26 March 2023 marks Purple Day, International Epilepsy Day; understands that epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions in the world, with an estimated 58,000 individuals in Scotland living with epilepsy and around 600,000 across the UK; further understands that anyone can develop epilepsy at any time in their life, and that epilepsy can affect people in different ways, depending on which part of the brain is involved; believes that Purple Day is an opportunity to get people talking about epilepsy and dispel the myths and stigma attached to the condition; considers that more needs to be done to help raise awareness of epilepsy and how the condition affects people, and highlights that Epilepsy Scotland is encouraging people to dress in purple, and illuminate landmarks and buildings in purple to mark the day.
