Saints in the Community Reminiscence Project

Lodged by Jim Fairlie (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 20 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends the Saints in the Community project for hosting weekly Football Memories sessions for Balhousie Care Group residents; understands that the sessions are frequently located at St Johnstone’s McDiarmid Park and are aimed at older people, including those with dementia, and involve looking at, and chatting about, photos of footballers from days gone by, sharing their memories and enjoying one another’s company, whether or not they are fans of St Johnstone; further understands that reminiscence projects are proven to trigger personal and emotion-driven memories and can provide better outcomes than some forms of medication, and that the Saints in the Community project uses football to stimulate particular memories of key players, or the exciting feeling of being at a match, in a social and community setting; congratulates Saints in the Community on its meaningful and impactful project, and wishes all involved continued success in the future.
