Comrie Primary School Success at Scottish Bread Championships

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Comrie Primary School on its incredible achievement of winning a silver medal for its "Shaky Toon Loaf" at the Scottish Bread Championships on 25 February 2023, at the inaugural Scottish Real Bread Festival at Bowhouse in Fife; understands that the judging was undertaken by a panel of chefs, grain experts and representatives of the Real Bread Campaign, who tested for bread made naturally and with wholesome ingredients; notes that Comrie Primary School was judged on merit alone, and considers that its success is testament to the school’s Breaducation project, which encourages students to grow, harvest, thresh and mill their own wheat in Comrie in order to create their own bread; commends Comrie Primary School for this incredible project, which gives students a hands-on demonstration of food production from an early age by working alongside parents, teachers, volunteers and the local farming community, and also introduces an exciting insight into how their food is made and highlights the value of nutrition from an early age; believes that the Breaducation project can set a good example for schools across Scotland to follow and adopt, and that local authorities should consider assisting schools to enable them to pursue and deliver this kind of innovative project; recognises the efforts of the Wild Hearth Bakery for bringing the project to life, and wishes the pupils of Comrie Primary School and the supporters of Breaducation continued success as they work towards the goal of introducing a micro-bakery at the school where children are put on a rota to make bread for the school every day.
