Laura Muir's Record Breaking Gold Medal at European Championships

The motion

That the Parliament once again congratulates Kinross-shire athlete, Laura Muir, on this occasion for winning the gold medal in the 1,500m event at the European Indoor Championships 2023, held in Istanbul on 4 March; notes what it sees as Laura’s previous outstanding achievements, including recent gold medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and European Championships; understands that this particular victory marks the fifth gold medal of Laura's career at the European Indoor Championships, establishing her as the most decorated athlete from the UK at this biennial track and field competition; considers Laura to be one of Scotland’s greatest ever athletes; believes that she is an inspiration to young girls who are looking to participate in any sport, demonstrating that hard work and determination can deliver the rewards of international success, and wishes her continued strong results in the season ahead.
