World Success for Scottish Athletes over the Weekend

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the victories and successes of Scottish athletes on the world stage; commends Eilish McColgan on yet another record-breaking run at Sound Running's The Ten event in California, USA; understands that Eilish’s 10,000m run, completed in 30:00:86, has set a new British record, shaving almost an entire second off of Paula Radcliff’s previous record of 30:01:09; commends Laura Muir on her record fifth gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in the Women’s 1,500m final, at the Ataköy Athletics Arena, Istanbul, making her a European champion on seven occasions in total; understands that Laura is now the most decorated British athlete in the history of the European Indoor Championships, surpassing both Jason Gardener and Colin Jackson, who each won four gold medals; recognises the dedication of their families and their coaches, Liz McColgan and Andy Young, respectively, who have no doubt contributed to their success, and wishes Eilish and Laura all the best as they continue to train for their next events and represent Scotland and the UK as world-class athletes.
