The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Scotland’s historic men’s curling rink, captained by Bruce Mouat, from Edinburgh, alongside Dumfriesshire’s Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie, Hammy McMillan, from Stranraer, and Kyle Waddell, from Hamilton, on their sensational World Men’s Curling Championship win in Ottowa, Canada, which was watched by a sell-out crowd of 6,500 people who witnessed a display of near-perfect percentage curling, as the team recorded an emphatic 9-3 victory over the host nation in the final to take the gold medal; understands that this win was Scotland’s first men’s world title since 2009; notes that it follows on from Team Mouat’s success at the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022, where they won the silver medal after being narrowly defeated 5-4 by Sweden; hopes that the Scots’ continued success will help elevate the sport across Scotland, provide a lasting legacy and inspire a new generation of curlers, and wishes Team Mouat further success in the future.
