Duncan Scott and University of Stirling Teammates Selected for Team GB in Japan

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Duncan Scott has been selected to represent Team Great Britain at the upcoming FINA World Swimming Championships; understands that Duncan is one of five University of Stirling swimmers chosen to compete for Team GB at the finals to be held in Fukuoka, Japan, in July 2023; acknowledges that it will be the fourth world championships for Duncan, who made his last appearance at the 2019 finals; understands that Duncan moved to Clackmannanshire when he was eight years old and joined Alloa Swimming Club at the town’s Leisure Bowl; acknowledges that he became the most decorated British Olympian at a single Games in 2020, and won a record number of medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022; understands that, in addition to fellow University of Stirling swimmers Katie Shanahan, Lucy Hope, Keanna MacInnes and Jack McMillan, they will be joined in Japan by Steven Tigg, head performance swim coach at the university, who has been selected as a coach for the eight-day event; acknowledges that the selection of five University of Stirling-based athletes for the forthcoming World Swimming Championships represents the highest number the university has had selected for the competition; congratulates Duncan and all his teammates on their selection, and wishes everyone involved all the very best of success in the championships.
