Two Long-term Friends Walking the Length of the UK for Dunblane's Braeport Memory Café

The motion

That the Parliament is enthused that two women, described by themselves as “old school friends”, are walking the length of the UK as part of a fundraising drive to raise money for a vital Dunblane service that supports people living with dementia and their families; understands that Mary Abercrombie and Helen Scott both regularly take part in long-distance events for charities, but that, following the support received by Mary’s in-laws by the dementia café service offered by Dementia Friendly Dunblane, they decided to take their fundraising ambitions further; believes that the friends set off for their trek from Land’s End on 7 April 2023, and that they are hoping to complete the 1,100 miles to John o’ Groats in around 60 days; understands that Mary, who lives in Dunblane, found the dementia café hugely supportive to her family, and that, as a former GP, she realises the significance of people getting extra help with dementia, which also includes families; welcomes the setting up of a JustGiving page for this cause; commends the work of the Braeport Memory Café, which is a project run by a group of volunteers known as Dementia Friendly Dunblane since 2017, under the auspices of Dunblane Development Trust, and is open to people with mild to moderate dementia, their families and carers, and wishes Mary and Helen all the very best in what it sees as their extremely magnanimous endeavours.
