The motion

That the Parliament commends the National Theatre of Scotland’s recent project, Like Flying, at Rossie Young People’s Trust in Angus; understands that a team of professional theatre makers and technical staff were in residence at the school, working with young people in residential and secure care under the direction of award-winning theatre director, Nic Green; further understands that Like Flying taught the young people aerial performance skills, and culminated in a performance for an invited audience; believes that the intended outcomes of the project were to increase the mental health and wellbeing of the young people by inviting them to learn new skills and release their potential, with the young people at Rossie being among some of Scotland’s most vulnerable; commends the project for increasing the young people’s confidence, offering them the opportunity to build their teamworking skills, and giving them a unique and enjoyable experience of the performing arts; understands that Like Flying was the first time the National Theatre of Scotland and Rossie Young People’s Trust have worked together, and wishes them the best as they look for further opportunities to contribute to the care, development and wellbeing of young people in residential and secure care.
