The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Caledonia Steel Queens, Scotland’s first university women’s ice hockey team, on being crowned the British Universities Ice Hockey Association Women’s Champions 2022-23 at the national championship finals held in Sheffield, for a third successive year; notes that this incredible achievement follows on from the Steel Queens finishing with a perfect record to win their first Women’s Nationals title in April 2019, since being officially formed in January 2018; recognises what it sees as the coaching skills and encouragement provided by Richard Gray and Jamie Turnbull, as well as the leadership qualities of captains, Lynne Sinclair, Aisling Rafter, Jessie Mulloy and Vicky Carson, who sadly missed the event; further acknowledges that the club’s principal aim is to promote female participation in ice hockey and provide a platform for the growth of women’s hockey in Scotland, and wishes the team well in developing new talent in future years, as well as increasing its army of fans.
