Mental Health Awareness Week

Lodged by Clare Adamson (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 32 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes that 15 to 21 May 2023 is Mental Health Awareness Week; recognises what it sees as the relevance of the 2023 theme of anxiety, which, it understands, is a normal emotion that can sometimes become so overwhelming that it becomes a mental health problem; notes that anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems, with a quarter of adults reportedly stating that anxiety has dramatically impacted on their life; believes that Mental Health Awareness Week increases people's awareness and understanding of anxiety, allows people to explore coping methods and helps to remove the stigma that still surrounds mental health, and commends the work of the Mental Health Foundation and local mental health organisations and volunteers across Scotland, who provide mental health awareness and support to those in crisis.
