Carers Week 2023
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Carers Week, which takes place between 5 and 11 June 2023;recognises that the week is an annual campaign that raises awareness of caring,highlights the challenges that unpaid carers face and recognises thecontribution that carers make to families and communities across Scotland;understands that many of the estimated 800,000 carers in Scotland do notrecognise themselves as carers, even though they have caring responsibilitiesfor friends and family members, and do not access the support and benefits thatare available, such as Carer's Allowance and Carer's Allowance Supplement;commends all carers for what it sees as their dedication and selfless acts, andencourages them to apply for Social Security Scotland’s new Carer SupportPayment, which is due to be piloted by the end of 2023, when it becomesavailable.
