Lodged by Jim Fairlie (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 17 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the return of Crieff’s annual football festival, which took place over the weekend of 29-30 April 2023; understands that the event took place for the first time since the COVID-19 restrictions were in place; notes that it was held at Strathearn Community Campus for primary school-aged children who play seven-a-side games, and that 173 teams, and around 1,500 players, travelled to Crieff from all over Scotland, including girls' teams for the first time; understands that around 3,000 people arrived in Crieff over the weekend to create one of Scotland’s biggest football festivals outside the central belt, and that proceeds will support registered charity Crieff Juniors, and at least £1,000 will be donated to charities such as Kids’ Week in Crieff; commends the decision by the tournament to create fixtures where teams are of a similar level, to ensure a fair competition, and that prizes are awarded for fair play rather than achievement, with each child receiving a medal; congratulates the organisers and all involved for the 2023 edition, and wishes Crieff’s annual football festival continued success in the years ahead.
