Glasgow Charity Helping to Divert Young People from Drugs and Crime

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates African Challenge Scotland, based in Springburn; understands that the charity has been providing young black and minority ethnic people with integrated and equal opportunities and has helped to divert "young people away from drugs and crime" in the city; further understands that the charity started 10 years ago, due to a lack of opportunity for young black and minority ethnic people in Glasgow; notes that the team works to advance education, raise awareness of inequality, alleviate poverty and build more successfully integrated communities; understands that the charity also offers homework clubs, family support, mentoring and ambassador programmes, language tutoring and a range of sporting activities and classes, all of which are free; notes that it also runs men's and women's clubs, which are designed to help older adults understand Glasgow culture and to break down the language barrier, and acknowledges that services are available to parents, families and young people between the ages of one and 25.
