East Ayrshire Catering Manager Wins ScotHot Food for Life Challenge

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Eleanor Geddes, of East Ayrshire, on her win at the ScotHot Food for Life Challenge; understands that the event was restricted to chefs working in the public sector and that they had to create a main course in 40 minutes that would be appropriate for a public sector establishment, incorporating Food for Life programme standards; notes that these include using at least one organic product, highlighting seasonal and local products, showcasing healthy dishes, striving to use less but better meat and using animal proteins that meet animal welfare standards; further understands that Eleanor’s winning dish was entitled "Bean Fishing", a homemade flatbread with a tomato and bean stew, topped with haddock fingers coated in organic breadcrumbs; notes that ScotHot, which is in its 50th year, is Scotland’s premier showcase for food, drink, hospitality, retail and tourism, providing the opportunity to network, share ideas and learn about the latest trends; further notes that the Soil Association’s Food for Life programme strives to make healthy, tasty and sustainable meals the norm for all to enjoy, reconnect people with where their food comes from, teach them how it is grown and cooked and champion the importance of well-sourced ingredients; understands that East Ayrshire Council is the longest-standing Food for Life Served Here gold award holder in the UK; recognises Eleanor’s contribution to that achievement through her employment as a catering manager at Shortlees Primary in Kilmarnock; believes in the importance of local food procurement to support rural economies, reduce food miles and carbon footprints and invest in healthier meals; commends Eleanor on her dedication to her profession, and wishes her well in all her future endeavours.
