Killie Heartmates Celebrate 25 Years

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Killie Heartmates are celebrating their 25th anniversary in May 2023; notes that Killie Heartmates are now in their 27th year of operation and that their celebration was unfortunately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that Killie Heartmates are an active cardiac exercise group, with fully qualified BACPR instructors, which formed in 1996 to provide a keep-fit class for people from all age groups who have experienced cardiac events, and that the group is affiliated with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland; further understands that the group also operates social outings for participants, along with their family and friends; recognises the efforts of John and Sheena Thomson, who established the group to help serve the needs of the Crosshouse Hospital community, beyond the cardiac rehabilitation and physiotherapy services provided through the NHS, while retaining a close working relationship with the Crosshouse Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit and East Ayrshire Council's Vibrant Communities team; further recognises what it sees as the value of third sector organisations in supplementing, or bridging the gap between, public services; commends Killie Heartmates on their commitment to meeting safely when they were able to return to classes in April 2021 by completing thorough risk assessments, which it understands made them the first cardiac rehab group in Scotland to return safely to outdoor classes; applauds the dedication and success of the Killie Heartmates Committee and members, and wishes them well in all their future endeavours.
