100th Anniversary of the Purchase of Canty Bay by W. Edgar Evans

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges that June 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the purchase of Canty Bay by W. Edgar Evans in 1923; understands that Canty Bay is a residential and activity centre, situated near North Berwick, in East Lothian; remembers Edinburgh resident, Mr William Edgar Evans, who, it understands, purchased Canty Bay and gifted it to a trust for the purpose of promoting the Christian growth of young people; considers that Canty Bay remains a key asset for cubs and scouts in the Lothians; believes that trusts make an important contribution to communities across the Lothians, and further believes that residential and activity centres, like Canty Bay, should be promoted and supported by governments for the continued difference that they make in the lives of young people.
