The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement by food ingredient manufacturer Macphie Ltd that, in celebration of its 50th year based in Glenbervie, near Stonehaven, it is donating £50,000 to local causes; understands that family-owned Macphie Ltd, established in 1928, moved from Glasgow to Glenbervie, in Aberdeenshire, in 1973; believes that this was a pioneering move at a time when it was rare to operate a global business from a rural location; notes that this recent announcement follows on from what it sees as Macphie’s extensive good work in the local area, including donating over £31,000 in the last 12 months alone to more than 100 causes, such as local youth football teams, events in the area, and supporting the committees behind local golf courses, green spaces and play parks; understands that Macphie’s largest single donation will be a sum of £30,000 to help fund the development of a walking route in Kincardineshire between St Cyrus and Cove, as part of the wider HM The Queen’s Jubilee Coastal Path, stretching from St Cyrus to Banffshire; further understands that, while Macphie is on the lookout for causes to support, interested groups can also apply for a donation, and wishes Macphie Ltd the very best for its next 50 years in Glenbervie.
