Haven Centre and the Elsie Normington Foundation

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Elsie Normington Foundation on the complete construction of its new multi-purpose Haven Centre for young people with learning disabilities and complex needs; recognises that the Elsie Normington Foundation, as well as receiving grant funding from the National Lottery and the Scottish Government, fundraised relentlessly over a 10-year period, to raise funds for the Haven Centre; notes that construction of the centre began at the start of 2022 and has been carried out by Highland-based company, Compass Construction; understands that the Haven Centre is set to be the first of its kind in Scotland, offering support to people, mainly those with complex needs, in the Highlands by providing respite facilities, supported accommodation and a venue for educational, social and recreational activity; notes that the centre will also have a community café, which will be supported by volunteers and young adults and will run as a viable business with profits going towards the supporting the centre, and wishes Elsie Normington and her team the best of success in completing the centre’s interior fittings.
