The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges Injury Awareness Week, which will take place between 26 and 30 June 2023; understands that this event was initiated by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), a not-for-profit organisation that campaigns for the rights of injured victims of negligence; considers that, during this year's Injury Awareness Week, APIL is asking people to really think about the impact of negligence on the lives of others, and the importance of providing support to help them get their lives back on track; understands that a survey by YouGov, commissioned by APIL for Injury Awareness Week, has revealed that, in the past 12 months, an estimated 1.6 million adults in the UK believe that they have become ill or been injured because of someone else’s negligence, which is an average of 30,000 injured victims of negligence each week affecting real people, often with life-changing injuries, and welcomes this initiative to raise further awareness of the risks and potentially serious outcomes as a result of the negligence of others.
