Troon’s Hazel McFarlane Receives OBE

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Troon’s Hazel McFarlane on being appointed an OBE in His Majesty The King’s Birthday Honours 2023, which was announced on 16 June 2023; notes that more than 1,000 individuals across various sectors and the UK have been honoured for their contributions and recognised for being inspiring entrepreneurs, innovators and philanthropists; understands that Hazel works at the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), and is a founding member and president of Student Vision Scotland; further understands that she was awarded a scholarship by the C K Marr Educational Trust, and she was a member of the movement campaigning for disability rights; acknowledges that, in 2007, following total sight loss, Hazel developed a vision support service for across Ayrshire and Arran, for which she was successful in obtaining support and funding from Vision Impairment Ayrshire and the RNIB; understands that her project has now been rolled out across the UK by the RNIB; commends Hazel for her incredible work over the years, and wishes her continued success in the future.
