The motion

That the Parliament commends Stonehaven Midsummer Beer Happening, which saw thousands descend on the three-day festival in June for top class beer, food and music; understands that the Happening has raised £71,000 for charities in the north east, as well as surpassing a major milestone of a quarter of a million pounds since the beer festival first launched in 2009; further understands that more than 950 cyclists took on the sportive event, tackling gruelling routes, ranging from a 40-mile gravel trail to 100 miles over the Mearns countryside; notes that the festival, which is entirely volunteer-run, will donate £10,000 each to Stonehaven's Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) team, as well as the town's Fireball Association and Sea Cadets; further notes that the Happening will continue its tradition of donating £5,000 in order to train a puppy for Guide Dogs Scotland, and that a further £11,000 will be distributed between eight other charities; congratulates the Stonehaven Midsummer Beer Happening for raising what is, it believes, a considerable sum for north east charities over the three-day festival, and commends the volunteers for their hard work and the legacy that it believes they continue to create for Stonehaven and its residents.
