Launch of NATO Exercise, Alba Breeze

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of NATO’s Mine Countermeasures (MCM) exercise, named Alba Breeze, from the berth at King George V Port in Govan, Glasgow; notes that the opening ceremony for the two-week exercise was held on 26 June 2023, in the presence of Mr Andrii Kuslii, Consul of Ukraine in Edinburgh; understands that participants in the exercise include armed forces personnel from 18 NATO and allied nations, including Ukraine; is aware that the main objective is to exercise and assess the United States, Ukraine and multinational partners’ interoperability and ability to conduct MCM operations in the designated area; understands that the exercise will also aim to improve Ukrainian staff compliance with NATO standards, with regards to MCM Task Group HQ operations; acknowledges that a total of 10 ships from the UK, the Netherlands, Estonia, France, Norway and Ukraine are participating, and wishes everyone involved in exercise Alba Breeze a fruitful and effective training operation.
