Fife Medical Student Encourages Disadvantaged Pupils to "Go for It"

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Kofi Afrifa on graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Medicine from the University of St Andrews; understands that the former Balwearie High School pupil is among the first in his family to attend university, and is now encouraging disadvantaged pupils who are traditionally underrepresented to enrol in higher education; acknowledges that Kofi is of Ghanaian descent and that, while at St Andrews, he was able to join the Afro-Caribbean Society, allowing him to relate to fellow students with a similar background and traditions; notes that Kofi’s love of speaking to people also led to him becoming a student ambassador in his first year, and in the last two years he has also become a PALS mentor for first year medical students; further notes that, in the past year, Kofi was also an IN2MedSchool mentor, helping at UCAT skills events and aiding students from disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them the assistance and encouragement needed for them to succeed; commends Kofi for his hard work and determination, and wishes him all the best for the future.
